Summer School Coloring Pages

What a great way to bond with your children while still using the internet. These free summer school coloring pages are available online and you can print them out and color in your child's artwork. This is an especially good idea if the child just received a new iPad or any other child-oriented device that makes it easy to "tap" into your child's brain. Here are a few ideas of what to do.

Themes: Most themes like nature, cars, or jungle are great for this kind of activity. Think of animals by their color or by design such as a lion with a torn mane. The child can draw a portrait of a lion and use the portrait images on the coloring pages as backgrounds or as accessories to the picture.

Colorful pictures: Try to find pictures that are colorful and lively. Try to find pictures of places that are in your child's favorite movie. If your child loves cartoons, try to find a picture of their favorite animated character or toy. Just be careful that the colors are not too garish and that they don't make it difficult for the child to read the captions or simple lines. Some good choices are Spongebob Squarepants, Bob the Builder, Scooby-Doo, Winnie the Pooh and the Rugliest Runt, and The Transformers.

Be creative: Find ways to bring these colors into other shapes. For example, you could use circles and squares together to make a checkerboard. You can even use diamonds and triangles to make a heart shape. These shapes can be combined in any way that your child enjoys.

Layering: Using multiple colors in the same page is a great way to add depth. For instance, when coloring a checkerboard, you can have two different colors make up the same vertical border, one on top of the other. Or you can even use alternating colors to create an "L" shape. Another popular coloring technique is creating multiple layers of color on top of one another.

Create collages: The summer school coloring pages that you create yourself can be displayed in your own home. Why not go through them and color in the most important features? If you're coloring animals, why not make a collage of each one with its name on the border? This will help bring back pleasant memories for your child.

Share: Coloring is fun and relaxing, but it also makes a great way to share what you've learned with others. Why not take a coloring sheet with you next time you pick up the color pencils? Make coloring books out of your colored pieces, or even create a scrapbook of them. You can even frame a favorite picture of your child on the coloring paper and hang it on the wall!

Have fun! Even if you choose to use professionally printed pages, your child's coloring is still going to be very much for them. If you're at a loss for how to get your child to color, have some fun! Read about coloring books and find ones that you like. Go to the library and borrow books on coloring, or even look for basic coloring books that are themed for summer. When you do this, you'll be able to give your child many options when it comes to coloring.

Also, keep in mind that not every book is suitable for summer school coloring pages. Even though a book is geared towards a younger audience, it doesn't mean that it's not good for older students who want to get in on the action. Some books may not be age appropriate, but the child may still enjoy it and learn from it. For example, kids who love to read usually enjoy coloring as well. If the coloring book isn't specifically for them, consider buying a few that they also like so they can color together.

Also keep in mind that not every book is appropriate for summer school coloring pages. Be sure to ask your kid what they would like to color. If they say something that is too complicated, don't force them to color it. They should be happy to take part in whatever the fun coloring activity is, but if they aren't, make sure they know that coloring isn't allowed during the lesson.

You can also encourage your children to color within their covers, but you need to be careful. Your kid probably just loves Toppers, Sallys, and other fun coloring pages. If this is true, it can be tempting to let them color in the cover of a regular coloring book. Before you do, make sure they understand that these pages aren't appropriate for coloring. The cover is a nice place for parents to find out about inappropriate coloring activities, but it's not a good place to put your child's head when they are coloring.
